The Ottobock C-leg is a revolutionary hydraulic microprocessor knee system that provides maximal swing and stance phase function for the above knee amputee.  This system incorporates a unique use of strain gauges that are connected from the foot system directly to the microprocessor.  This provides immediate stance phase adjustments as the patient encounters any obstacle, whether coming down a steep hillside or steps down to a sit at a crowded Basketball Arena.  The prosthesis provides infinite adjustments throughout all phases of gait with up to 50 readings and adjustments of the hydraulic valves per second.  For the above knee amputee this is virtually like having your prosthetist making adjustments inside your knee with every step.  This system enables the user to have maximal stability and safety with each step, instantaneous response to speed variations, step over step descent of hills and stairs, along with reduced effort needed by the patient throughout the day.  Currently there are an overwhelming number of knee systems available to the above knee amputee, many of which provide excellent function and performance, yet I firmly believe that none provide as close a match to copying the function of the human knee as the Ottobock C-leg.
