MARLON SHIRLEY
Marlon Shirley is an extraordinary young man, with incredible drive and endurance. Besides being a professional athlete he is studying flight technology in Colorado.

Marlon lost his left leg below the knee as a young boy in a lawnmower accident. Marlon does not see himself as being at a disadvantage with able bodied athletes, just a little slower which he is working on.

Marlon Shirley - Marlon holds world records in Long Jump, High Jump, 55 meters and 100 meters. At the Para Olympics in Sydney, Marlon achieved a gold medal in the 100 meters and broke a world record with his 11.02 second run. Marlon holds world records in Long Jump, High Jump, 55 meters and 100 meters. John Hattingh has Marlon running on ultra-lightweight carbon technology, incorporating a Flex-Foot Sprinter sponsored by Ossur. The geometry of the sprinter is setup to ensure prolonged forefoot ground contact to benefit from the dynamics of the spring.

Marlon prefers an Allurion foot by Flex-Foot for his daily prosthesis and manages the rudder control when flying, very well. The skills to fly come from hours of training but the foot, according to Marlon, makes it a little easier.

JEFF SKIBA

Jeff has been a Below the Knee amputee since the age of 10 months.  He was born without a fibula.

This fact however did not stop Jeff from challenging himself. He set out to accomplish goals that would intimidate able bodied young men.  As a senior in the spring of 2001, Jeff won the state high school - high jump title with a height of 6ft 10 inches.

Jeff has since competed at many athletic meets including a meet in Lille, France where he claimed ownership of the world record with a height of 6ft 101/4 inches, out distancing his nearest competitor by more than 6 inches.  Jeff now has his sites set on the Summer Olympics in Athens as well as a record of over 7 foot.

Bryan Hoddle, Jeffs coach and trainer feels that this will easily be attained by Jeff. In fact Bryan feels that Jeff is capable of 7ft 4inches with the correct prosthesis and training.

John has rebuilt Jeff’s High Jump Prosthesis, by replacing his current Allurion with a Mod 3 system.  This enabled him to reduce the weight of the prosthesis to 2.25lbs. with a higher toe deflexion factor.  John anticipates more record breaking jumps from Jeff on this system.
